In the chart here we see the change in global soybean production from 1961 onwards. 1 Back in the 1960s, we were producing 20 to 30 million tonnes per year. This is now 350 million tonnes. We can increase agricultural production in two ways: by improving yields (growing more on a given plot of land) or expanding the amount of land we use.
